Yoga W/ Marca offers a variety of drop-in friendly classes for people of all levels of experience and ability. All classes emphasize proper alignment, strength, flexibility, endurance, and cultivate awareness resulting in a deeper state of relaxation. Various props such as blocks, blankets, bolsters, backless yoga chairs, straps and the wall are used often to provide support and to go deeper into the postures. Age gracefully with Gentle Yoga. Join Jill Johnson, a physical therapist, certified Iyengar yoga teacher and certified yoga therapist to explore how the yoga poses restore and renew our aging bodies. This class is appropriate for older adults and those with injuries. Pregnant and post-partum women are welcome (babies too!)

For beginning yoga students. Level I- Beg. emphasizes fundamental alignment principles with a concentration on standing postures. A gentle approach, sometimes with the support of a yoga chair. Seated and reclined postures will also be taught and will include gentle backbends, spinal twists, forward folds, and supported inversions. You will develop strength, flexibility, balance, and reduce stress while cultivating discipline and sensitivity to your individual needs. Please note that you will need to use a staircase to get to the lower level. Pregnant and post-partum women are welcome.

Gentle Chair Yoga
Practice yoga in a gentle, supported way with the use of a backless yoga chair. In this class we will do yoga that incorporate all six movements of the spine using the chair and other props. Postures will be done seated in the chair, standing with the chair, with occasional use of wall support, and sometimes reclining on the floor. This is an excellent class for those with limited mobility, joint pain, balance issues, and who have trouble sitting directly on the floor. Please note that you will need to use a staircase to get to the lower level.

Level I - Cont. is for continuing Level I Yoga practitioners to continue refining a fundamental yoga practice. Brand new beginners are welcome to attend this class but fewer supportive props and modifications will be offered.

Levels I - II is for continuing practitioners to refine and elevate an established yoga practice. We will explore an expanding range of basic through intermediate level postures. Shoulder stand, backbends, seated twists, forward bends and some arm balances will be taught in this class. It is recommended that you have had a least one year of a regular yoga practice before starting this class or CONTACT for instructor permission.

This class takes a "less is more" approach. We conserve energy without total passivity. We reclaim space, stillness, quietude, and with it we reclaim ease, peace, vitality, and clarity. Restorative yoga involves long holds and fewer poses such as twists, seated forward folds, supported backbends, hip and shoulder openers, reclined postures, and sometimes supportive use of the wall. Dim lighting, slow and gentle movements and subtle use of aromatherapies will support a meditative environment. On the final Wednesday of the month, we will have a longer final resting pose (~20 minutes) practicing Yoga Nidra- a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping in which the body is completely relaxed and the practitioner becomes increasingly aware of their own internal world. Occasionally we will alternate with another form of guided meditation. Bring socks, a favorite blanket, warm layers, and an eye pillow if you want. Restorative Yoga is a seasonal class on the Fall & Winter schedules (Sept thru Feb)

YIN; the Quiet Practice… an antidote to a fast, competitive, over-stimulating world…Join me on the mat to Slow Way Way down into presence. I employ asanas held for long periods of time targeting the deeper, denser tissues in the body; a variety of pranayama (breathing exercises), a chill sound track, and sometimes a slow deliberate Flow to highlight energy centers in the body. In this class there is use of Therapeutic grade Essential Oils to enhance the experience.. never perfumes. This is a class open to all levels. See you on Wednesday nights as winter turns to spring!
